City Airport Train

The City Airport Train, CAT, is a type of train, which commutes center without intermediate stops between the airport Vienna (city of Schwechat ) and the Vienna Station.

Operation

Trains of the City Airport Trains make December 14, 2003, a direct connection from the airport without intermediate stops to the City Air Terminal at the station Wien Mitte represents the trains of about 5.30 clock bis 23.30 clock every half hour and need for the 20 -kilometer route 16 minutes.

Operator

Design

The entire interior and exterior design as well as the branding of the CAT City Airport Train originate from the specialized strategic design company, Spirit Design from Vienna. It has won several awards: Corporate Design Award 2004 ( Nomination ) Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany in silver in 2006, D & AD Award (Yearbook entry ), Design Management Europe ( Honorable Mention ), IDEA 2008 ( nomination )

In August 2010, a refurbishment project was started. Two months later, the first set including locomotive was a new design. The interior has been completely modernized. Since the beginning of 2011, all complete sets present both inside and outside redesigned.

Alternatives

The City Airport Train is the fastest and most expensive, but not the only way to reach by public transport from the airport to Vienna and vice versa.

The S -Bahn line S7 is required for the same route, but with stops at all stations, about 25 minutes and the ferry in addition to Floridsdorf. Similar to the CAT, the S -Bahn trains between about 5 and midnight clock drive in, opposite the CAT delayed, every half hour, use in Vienna center and at the airport but other station areas. A ticket for two zones ( an outer zone and the core zone of Vienna ) costs 4,20 € and is valid for a single trip with transfers to all destinations in Vienna.

With three lines of the Vienna Airport Lines bus company to get from the airport to Vienna. For Morzinplatz in the city center, the buses run every half hour with a journey time of 20 minutes. The line to the station Wien Westbahnhof Meidling runs in 30 -minute intervals with a journey time of 30 or 45 minutes. And an hourly bus service to Kagran, which operates the metro station Donaumarina, some hotels and the UN headquarters on the track.
