City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra ( CBSO abbreviated ) is an orchestra of central English city of Birmingham with predominantly classical repertoire. In addition to the major London orchestras, it is one of the most important in England.

The orchestra was founded as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra 1920. The first concert was held under the direction of Edward Elgar in September this year. In 1944 it was converted into a fixed base. Significant conductors created over time a significant ensemble of national importance. In 1997 the orchestra in a new building, known as the CBSO Centre, Berkley Street and Holliday Street corner is located in Birmingham. In addition to the orchestra there is also housed a youth orchestra and a choir.

Commercial recordings of music were mostly in collaboration with the two plates labels EMI Classics ( see EMI Group ) and Warner Classics ( see Warner Music Group ) produces and have appeared there.
