Blacktown City is a Local Government Area ( LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales. Blacktown is part of the metropolis of Sydney, capital of New South Wales. The area is 240 km ² and has about 300,000 inhabitants.

Geography

Blacktown is located north of Prospect Reservoir about 35 km west of the city center in Outer Sydney. The area includes 60 districts: Acacia Gardens, Arndell Park, Bidwill, Blackett, Blacktown, Blacktown North, Blacktown South, Blacktown West, Bungarribee, Colebee, Dean Park, Dharruk, Doonside, Emerton, Glendenning, Glenwood, Glenwood Park, Grantham, Hassall, Hassall Grove, Hebersham, Huntingwood, Kellyville Ridge, Kings Langley, Kings Park, Lalor Park, Lethbridge Park, Marayong, Marayong Heights, Marayong South, Marsden Park, Minchinbury, Mount Druitt, Oakhurst, Parklea, Plumpton, Quakers Hill, Riverstone, Rooty Hill, Ropes Creek, Schofields, Seven Hills, Seven Hills North, Seven Hills West, Shalvey, Stanhope Gardens, Tregear, Wall Grove, West Point Centre, Whalan, Willmot, Woodcroft, and parts of Eastern Creek, Kellyville, Prospect, Rouse Hill, Shane Park, St Marys, Toongabbie and Vineyard. The seat of the City Council located in the district in the east of Blacktown LGA.

Culture and sights

In Prospect district is the largest reservoir of Sydney, the Prospect Reservoir. Also worth seeing are the Alpha Park, Featherdale Wildlife Park, Wonderland Theme Park, Blacktown International Ice Arena ( home of the Western Sydney Ice Dogs in the Australian Ice Hockey League, AIHL ) and the Blacktown Showground ( Francis Park ).

One of the largest shopping centers in the area is the " West Point Blacktown ". You can go shopping there, among others, Myer, Target, Big W, Coles Supermarkets, Franklins and Woolworths Supermarkets.

Important educational institutions are the Patrician Brothers College Blacktown, the Blacktown Girls High School, Mitchell High School Blacktown, Blacktown TAFE the ( Technical and Further Education) and the Max Webber Library.

Traffic

Blacktown is located on the Western railway line between the center of Sydney, Penrith and Richmond. The Blacktown Railway Station is an interchange station for trains between Dubbo and Sydney.

The city is also a hub of the national road traffic. By Blacktown run the Great Western Highway, Richmond Road, the Metroad 2, Metroad 4 and the Westlink M7. There are a total of LGA 1019 kilometers and 100 kilometers regional local roads.
