City Slang

City Slang is a German label based in Berlin. It was founded in 1990 by Christof Elling House and is distributed by Universal Major.

History

Elling house dates from the East Westphalian town Beverungen. There he wrote with friends the Musikfanzine "Glitter House" ( later it became a eponymous label ). Mid-1980s, he went to study in Berlin. Here he supervised small touring bands and founded the agency "sweatshop ", whose first job was to care for a tour of the U.S. band Nirvana. Other U.S. bands that he sent in Germany and Europe on tour, were Mudhoney, Soundgarden, The Walkabouts, Eleventh Dream Day, Thin White Rope, Urge Overkill or the Flaming Lips.

The latter spoke to him that they needed a label in Europe, after which he founded as a sub-label City Slang of the Berlin label, multi-tonal and since 1992 operates as an independent label.

The company celebrated in November 2010, the 20th year of its existence.

The label represents German, American and Canadian bands in Europe. So there is among other things a close cooperation with the Chicago indie label Thrill Jockey and the Canadian label arts & crafts.

City Lang is a member of the co-operation network of the Berlin music industry Berlin Music Commission.
