Ciutat Vella

Ciutat Vella (Catalan for Old Town, Castilian: Ciudad Vieja ) is the first of the ten municipalities of the Catalan capital of Barcelona. It has about 104,000 inhabitants on 4.37 square kilometers. The district corresponds to the historical center of the city and includes the area within the city walls of the 14th and 15th century as well as the district of La Barceloneta, which lay outside the walls.

Geography and Urban District Outline

The city district Ciutat Vella is bordered to the south by Sants -Montjuïc, in the west of Eixample, in the north of Sant Martí and east by the Mediterranean Sea.

Neighborhoods in the district

The municipality is divided into the neighborhoods of El Raval, Barri Gotic, La Barceloneta and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera.
