Civil Order of Savoy

The Civil Merit of Savoy was donated by Charles Albert, King of Piedmont-Sardinia on October 29, 1831.

History

The Order was had either to residents or to persons who had acquired the same state rights and of recognized merit awarded. Especially at

  • Senior officials who had performed without specific instruction increased administration an act
  • To scholars, writers and officials who wrote an important work,
  • Engineers, builders and artists that made by meritorious works a name,
  • To individuals who have made important discoveries or improvements added,
  • To professors of science and literature, as well as to educational institution directors of reputation.

The number of knights was set at fifty and on February 20, 1868 on November 16, 1850, sixty. The pensions were reorganized by King Victor Emmanuel II on 23 June 1861.

The order consisted of only a knight class.

Order decoration

The Order was a blue enamelled simple cross with golden edging. In the round gold combined central shield is on the front with golden inscription, the initials of the founder "CA" and on the back the words as religious Currency al Merito Civile 1831st

Ribbon and carrying method

The band was blue with two white stripes. The Order was worn on the left chest or in his buttonhole. As of February 9, 1841 a religious clothes were authentic. This consisted of a blue uniform, with abundant gold embroidery. White breeches, silk stockings and shoes with gold buckles belonged to it. A hat in triangular shape ( French style ) with black pen, with golden clasp and with golden tassels completed the ceremony clothing.
