ÄŒKD (company)

CKD is a Czech machine manufacturer and supplier of electrical equipment or vehicles with seat in Prague. The abbreviation stands for CKD -Moravian -piston Danek, this term is not officially used anymore.

History

It was created in 1927 from the merger of three companies:

• První Česko - Moravian továrna na stroje v Praze, as, vorm. First Bohemian-Moravian Machine factory in Prague, founded in 1871, focuses on building locomotives, chemical plants and large steel structures. In 1907 she founded together with the wagon construction company Ringhoffer the carmaker Praga.

• Piston a spol, a.s. ( Piston & Co.), founded by Emil piston 1896. 1898, it merged with the Company as Pražská to society as Elektrotechnická together. In the year 1921, as Elektrotechnická united with the company První Česko - Moravian továrna na stroje v Praze, as (see above) to society Českomoravská - piston, as

• Danek a spol, a.s. ( Danek & Co.), was founded in 1854 by Čeněk Danek. 1872, it merged with the company wide field & Evans to society Akciová společnost, DRIVE wide field, Danek a spol. together. This company presented her 1926-1927 automobiles. The brand name was BD.

In 1927, then as united Českomoravská flask and Akciové společnosti, Drive broad field, Danek a spol. to society -Moravian -piston Danek, AS. In this society at that time were remarkable 12,000 workers are employed.

Between 1946 and 1990, up to 50,000 workers were employed in the factories of CKD. The product range included locomotives, cranes, electrical machinery, compressors and thyristors. Became famous for CKD but mainly by the built in large numbers Tatra trams, which were manufactured in CKD Tatra in Prague's Smíchov.

After 1990, the situation of the company has become more difficult, which is why it was divided in the sequence in several companies. In 2004, these companies have partially merged under the name Skupina CKD Praha ( Prague CKD group ).
