CKGE-FM

94.9FM The Rock ( CKGE -FM) is a Canadian private radio stations from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The station broadcasts an active rock format with a power of 50 kW.

History

The station began broadcasting in 1957 and was operated by Lakeland Broadcasting under the brand CKLB 93.5 - FM. Initially, an easy listening format was aired. 1966, the call sign was changed to CKQS. In the same year the frequency was changed to the present one.

1979, the station was taken over by Grand Broadcasting. This leads to a further amendment of the call sign on CKQT. Grant Broadcasting was acquired in 1990 by Power Broadcasting.

In 1993, the station changed its broadcasting format and sent an adult contemporary format. The Callsgin was retained but added was the brand " The Edge". In 1995, the station in "Magic 94.9 " has been renamed. 1999 changed to the transmission format to a modern adult contemporary format to attract the younger audience.

2000 Power Broadcasting was acquired by Corus Entertainment. 2003, the station was sold to Durham Radio Inc..
