Claiborne County (Tennessee)
Claiborne County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tazewell.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Tennessee, bordered to the north Kentucky and Virginia and has an area of 1,144 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bell County (Kentucky), Lee County ( Virginia), Hancock County, Grainger County, Union County, Campbell County and Whitley County ( Kentucky).
In the north, the Cumberland Gap connects the Claiborne County Kentucky. The county is drained by the Powell River, the southern boundary is formed by the Clinch River. Both rivers feed the Norris Lake on which also the Claiborne County has a share.

History
Claiborne County was formed on October 29, 1801 from parts of Grainger County and Hawkins County. It was named after William CC Claiborne, a governor of Louisiana and the Mississippi Territory.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Claiborne County 29 862 people in 11,799 households and 8,684 families. The population density was 27 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.79 percent White, 0.75 percent African American, 0.24 percent Native American, 0.28 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.19 percent from other races groups; 0.74 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.64 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 11,799 households out of which 32.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.0 percent were single mothers and 26.4 percent were non-families. 23.4 percent of all households and 10.0 percent lived in persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average household size was 2.91 people.
23.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.9 percent between 18 to 24, 28.7 percent between 25 and 44, 25.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.4 percent were older than 65, the average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 93.3 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 25,782, and the median income for a family was $ 31,234. Males had a median income of $ 26,280, women $ 19,951. The per capita income was $ 13,032. 18.4 percent of families and 22.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
