History of the clan

Although during the destruction of the family seat by Lord Lewis Gordon Marquis of Huntly, either burned or taken away, but around the year 1311 was Michael, Thane of Brodie and Dyke, the lands were all important documents that could shed light on the history of the family and the clan, his father Malcolm, guaranteed documented by King Robert the Bruce. His father Malcolm was Thane of Brodie under King Alexander III. of Scotland. Another document from the time of King Robert de Bruce testified that Michael Brodie docked with the powerful Abbey of Pluscarden to expand its territory and influence. The subsequent generations were anxious to expand its influence through marriage. Except for some local conflicts, especially with the Gordons, the Brodies lived in peace. Alexander Brodie of Brodie in 1650 tried ( 1617-1680 ) King Charles II as king to come to Scotland. In 1727, his namesake Alexander Brodie of Brodie became the Lord Lyon King of Arms. The family seems to have spared public office. 1980 handed Ninian Brodie of Brodie the ancestral home of the clan, Brodie Castle, the National Trust for Scotland.
