Origin of the name
About the Cochrane exist only since 1262 written records, namely as a certain Waldenus de Coveran in an old document, regarding gifts of land to Walter Stewart was the Earl of Menteith mentioned.
Other historical bearer of the name was William de Coughran 1296 and Robert de Cochrane to 1360th
20th century
The father of the current Chiefs, that the 14th Earl, initially served in the Black Watch and during the Second World War, he fought in Africa, Sicily and Greece. After the war he was stationed in Germany until he retired in 1953 from the army. Sir Ralph Cochrane, the youngest son of Thomas Cochrane, 1st Baron Cochrane of Cults, was a British pilot and officer in the Royal Air Force, who became known for his role during the Operation Chastise awareness.
