Clan Erskine

Erskine is the name of a Scottish clan in the Lowlands.

History

The name derives from the Erskine Erskine region (and later town ), which lies south of the River Clyde and about ten miles west of Glasgow. Most likely, this term comes from the Latin or Old English and means green rising ground ( "Green Collection ").

The first known person named Erskine was Henry Erskine, owner of the Barony of Erskine, who lived during the reign of Alexander II in the 13th century. In modern Scottish Gaelic name Arascain is written.
