Clan Forsyth

The Clan Forsyth ( Scottish Gaelic: Clann Fearsithe ) comes from the Lowlands and is one of the richest Scottish clans.

History

Forsyth (sometimes Forsythe ) is a gläischer name and means ' man of peace '. Members of the clan live in the UK, Canada, Nova Scotia, USA, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In fact, today many more Forsyth live abroad than remain in the Scottish homeland.

In earlier history, the Forsyths were a Scandinavian royal family, whose symbol was the griffin.

However, they should be first come rather late to the British Isles, namely 1236. This chronological structure would make the Forsyth to descendants of Forsach, a Northern man, who settled in Aquitaine on the Dordogne River. From here the Viscomte de Fronsoc Eleanor of Provence accompanied to London to Henry III. to marry. He lived then from 1236 to 1246 in the English Court in London. It is believed that his family received lands in Northumberland, on the border with Scotland.
