Clan Lindsay

Lindsay is the name of a Scottish clan, who comes from Crawford in Lanarkshire and its progenitor Baldric de Lindesay, was an Anglo- Norman baron of the 11th century.

History

1398 the Earldom of Crawford was created, the first Earl of Lindsay was the Chief. The clan has a number of famous personalities brought forth, including the 4th Earl Alexander Lindsay, who wanted to share the whole of Scotland with the Earl of Ross -shire and William Douglas and was defeated in 1452. Or David Lyndsay of the Mount, a poet of the 16th century.

The motto of the clan is continuing Endure ( " Have stock with strength" ).

The respective Earl of Crawford is head of the Clan Lindsay. Since 1975, this is Robert Alexander Lindsay, 29th Earl of Crawford and 12th Earl of Balcarres.
