Clan Mackintosh

Mackintosh (Mac - to - Toisich: " son of the head " ) is the name of a Scottish clan, the east of Loch Ness comes from the field and on Shaw MacDuff, goes back, the third son of the Earl of Fife in the 12th century.

History

Angus, the sixth head of the clan took over in 1291 by marriage presided over the Clan Chattan, a warlike confederacy of several major highland tribes. With the Clan Chattan Mackintosh participated in the sequence at different territorial feuds, including the final battle between two tribes, which they lost in 1688 at Mulroy against the MacDonalds of Keppoch. The Clan first supported William of Orange, presented at the first Jacobite Rising in 1715 but on his opponent's side.

The motto of the Mackintosh is Touch not the cat bot a glove ( "Touch not the cat without a glove ").
