Clara of Saxe-Lauenburg

Clare of Saxe-Lauenburg ( born December 13, 1518 Lauenburg, † March 27, 1576 in Barth ) was a princess of Saxe- Lauenburg and by marriage Duchess of Brunswick- Gifhorn.

Life

Klara was a daughter of Duke Magnus I of Saxe- Lauenburg (1470-1543) from his marriage to Catherine (1488-1563), daughter of Duke Henry I of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel.

They married on September 29, 1547 in Saxony- Lauenburg castle Neuhaus in the country Darzing. Duke Franz of Brunswick- Gifhorn ( 1508-1549 ). The couple was in the population to be extremely popular, although the brief marriage of convenience was unhappy. Clara, who was considered a benevolent and was versed in medicine, prepared an herbal beer for the poor and sick, that was sent long after her death.

After the death of her husband Clare lived on her promised dowry at Castle Faller life, the construction of which she finished in 1551. In Faller life she made for an economic upswing. Later she went to the court of her eponymous daughter's Pomeranian Barth, where they died. Klara was buried in Our Lady's Church. The tomb in the chapel Gifhorn is empty.
