Claregalway

Baile Chláir (Irish and official name, engl. Claregalway ) is a city and a rural parish in County Galway in the west of Ireland.

Claregalway originated as a medieval foundation on the River Clare and is situated in a Gaeltacht region so that Baile Chláir is the official name of the place. The town is located 10 km north-east of Galway City at the junction of National Road N18 from Limerick City in the N17 from Galway City on the distance of 23 kms Tuam in the north. This situation confronts the place with chronic traffic congestion.

The population of Claregalway was determined during Census 2011, 2,008 persons.

In the village are the remains of the monastery Claregalway, which was operated since the mid-13th century until about 1570 by the Franciscans.
