Clarence "Frogman" Henry

Clarence " Frogman " Henry ( born March 19, 1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American R & B singer. His best known hit was 1956 Is not Got No Home, which bridges the gap between rhythm and blues and rock ' n ' roll.

Biography

As a child, Clarence Henry got piano lessons. His musical influences were Fats Domino and Professor Longhair, which he imitated during his high school years. He played in various bands piano and trombone.

In 1956 he got the opportunity to record his own composition not Got No Home for Chess Records. The plate was a hit and Henry got the nickname " Frogman " as he croaked like a frog in the piece.

This was followed by extensive touring through the United States, first with walking shows, and later as a solo artist with his own band. Among other things, he joined in 1957 at the Apollo Theater in New York.

1958 Henry went back to New Orleans, where he worked from now on in local clubs. With You Always Hurt the One You Love and the Bobby -Charles- title (I Do not Know Why ) But I Do 1961 he had two more big hits.

Occasionally, he went on tour again, about 1959 as bandleader for Chuck Berry or 1964 with the Beatles. Over time, he has performed with numerous celebrities, including Tina Turner, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, Jerry Butler, James Brown, Little Richard, Bonnie Raitt and many others. His engagements have taken him to Europe.

Henry still stands on the stage and is a regular guest at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Awards

Clarence Henry received numerous awards, of which only the most important are to be enumerated. In 1995, he was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame, whose Living Legend Award he received in 2002. In 2003 he received the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.
