Clarence Seay

Clarence Seay ( born January 7, 1957 in Washington, DC) is an American jazz bassist and composer.

Life and work

Seay attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington DC and studied in the early 1980s at Howard University after that. Fellow students were Wallace Roney, Gregory Charles Royal and Geri Allen. He was ten years Adjunct Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond ( Virginia).

Seay played 15 years in Wallace Roney Quintet, and also, among others, with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Wynton Marsalis, Billy Harper, a quintet of Chico Freeman (with whom he also toured in Europe and Germany in 1983, with Wallace Roney ), Lou Donaldson (1986 European tour ) and the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra Works.

He took Wallace Roney Quintet with Billy Harper, Cindy Blackman, Piotr Wojtasik, Wynton Marsalis and Gregory Charles Royal ( Dream Come True, with Geri Allen) on.
