Clark County (Kansas)
Clark County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ashland. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in southwest Kansas, on the south by Oklahoma and has an area of 2531 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Kansas clockwise at Concordia counties: Ford County, Kiowa County, Comanche County and Meade County.
History
Clark County was formed on March 7, 1885 parts of Ford County. It was named after Charles F. Clarke, an officer in the American Civil War, who died at the Battle of Memphis.

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,390 people in Clark County. Of these, 46 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 979 households, and 676 families in Clark County. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.8 percent white, 0.3 percent African American, 1.1 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 1.9 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.9 percent were descended from two or more races. 4.0 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 979 households out of which 30.2 percent of children under 18 who lived with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 6.2 percent were single mothers and 30.9 percent were non-families. 29.6 percent of all households were single-person households and 17.0 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.95 persons.
26.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 4.9 percent 18 to 24 years 23.1 percent between 25 and 44, 23.6 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 21.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males. For every 100 adult women 18 years and older 88.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 33,857, and the median income for a family was $ 40,521. Males have a median income of $ 27,321, women $ 20,833. The per capita income was $ 17,795. 11.3 percent of families and 12.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
