Clarkston (East Renfrewshire)

Clarkston (Gaelic: Baile Chlarc ) is a village in the Scottish unitary authority in East Renfrewshire. It is situated in the triangle between the southern districts of Glasgow and the towns of East Kilbride and Newton Mearns about eight kilometers south of Glasgow's city center. 1881 were counted in Clarkston 763 inhabitants. By 1971, the number had increased to 8404. According to an estimate from the year 2009 there lived 8787 people. With the Villa Green Bank House is a building of the highest Scottish monument category A in Clarkston.

Traffic

The village is connected via the A726 that links Strathaven about East Kilbride with the M8 at Paisley on the road network. With the M77 motorway, a Clarkston happened a few kilometers west. Already in the 19th century Clarkston was connected through its own railway station on the railway network. The route went from Glasgow over the adjacent Busby and East Kilbride. Today, the railway station on the Glasgow South Western Line is operated. In 2011, some 516,000 passengers used the station.
