Clatteringshaws Loch

Clatteringshaws hole is a reservoir in the Scottish Lowlands. It is located about 8 km west of New Galloway in Galloway Forest Park in Dumfries and Galloway Council Area. The south bank of the lake and the dam are easily accessible via the A712.

Clatteringshaws hole is about 2.6 km long and up to 1.6 km wide. The lake was created in the years 1929-1935 by the River Dee was dammed. Clatteringshaws hole is part of the Galloway Hydro Electric Scheme and is used for production of electric energy. The jammed in the lake water is passed through a 5.63 km long tunnel and drives the turbines of the Glenlee Power Station.
