Claude de La Baume

Claude de La Baume (* 1534 in France, † June 14, 1584 in Arbois ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Appointed to succeed his uncle Pierre de la Beaume Archbishop of Besançon on June 27th, 1543 he was ordained only on August 10, 1566 as a priest.

He had at this time a love relationship with Nicole de Savigny, Baroness de Fontette et de Saint -Remy (* 1535, † 1590), daughter of Georges de Savigny, Seigneur de Sailly and Nicole of Maret, the 1556/57, the mistress of the had been king Henry II. Nicole de Savigny sued Claude de La Baume in compliance with a promise of marriage, but this was rejected in December 1567 by the Roman Rota.
