Claude-Emmanuel de Pastoret

Claude -Emmanuel Joseph Pierre, marquis de Pastoret ( born December 24, 1755 in Marseille, † September 28, 1840 in Paris) was a French politician and writer.

Biography

De Pastoret was during the French Revolution, Member of Parliament of Paris in the Legislative Assembly in 1791 and for a short time minister of the interior. During the Reign of Terror he emigrated in 1795 and returned back to France. After the revolution he was a deputy of the Var, in 1809 a member of the Senate conservateur 1814 Member and Vice President of the Chambre des pairs, Ministre d' État in 1826 and 1829, the last Chancellor of the restoration.

Claude -Emmanuel de Pastoret was a member of the covenant of freemasons and member of the Paris Masonic Lodge Neuf Sœurs.

De Pastoret was in 1784 a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, 1820 to the Académie française and in 1832 the Académie des sciences morales et politiques. He taught at the Collège de France and the Sorbonne, emerged as the translator of the works of Tibullus and published a elfbändige Histoire de la Législation.
