Claude Lemaire

Claude Lemaire (* February 21, 1921; † 5 February 2004) was a French entomologist, zoologist and lepidopterist.

Life

After studying economics and civil law at the University of Paris, he received his PhD in Dr. iur. He then worked from 1949 to 1956 in the legal department of a bank and then from 1957 to 1959 as an auctioneer at the Drouot auction house in Paris.

He became president of the Société entomologique de France, in 1992, president of the Association for Tropical Lepidoptera and twice Vice- President of the Lepidopterists ' Society in 1972.

He specialized in Peacock Spinners, published many articles and books and described many genera, species, subspecies and varieties.
