Claude Malhuret

Claude Malhuret ( born March 8, 1950 in Vichy / France) is the mayor of the French town of Vichy.

After completing his medical doctorate at the Sorbonne in Paris, he worked in a hospital. In 1973 he took part in various voluntary projects overseas before he was hired by the WHO.

Claude Malhuret founded in 1971 together with a small group of French doctors, the international organization Médecins sans frontières, in the German-speaking area better known as Doctors Without Borders. The founding group also included Bernard Kouchner, former French Foreign Minister, on. From 1979 to 1986 Claude Malhuret was the director of Doctors Without Borders.

From 1986 to 1988 Malhuret was Minister for Human Rights in the French government. Since 1989 he has been mayor of Vichy. The revitalization and modernization of the city and the entire region are focal points of his work.
