Claudia de Valois, French: Claude de Valois, (* November 12, 1547 at the Fontainebleau Castle, † February 21, 1575 in Nancy) was Princess of France and Duchess of Lorraine.

Life

Claudia de Valois was born on November 12, 1547, the third child and second daughter of King Henry II of France and his wife Catherine de Medici.

She was together with her older sister Elizabeth of Valois, the future Queen of Spain, and Mary Stuart, the future Queen of France and Queen of Scotland, educated at the French court. Claudia suffered like all her siblings from physical defects that had been ( with the exception of Margaret ) inherited through her ​​mother to the children, and consequently suffered from a club foot and a hump on the back. At the age of 11, she was on 22 January in 1559 with Duke Charles III. married Lorraine after it had been signed in Paris the marriage contract on January 10, 1559. During the marriage, she gave birth to nine children and died at the age of twenty-seven years from the effects of a difficult birth.
