Claude Provost

Claude Joseph Antoine Provost ( born September 17, 1933, Montreal, Quebec, † April 17, 1984 in Florida, United States) was a Canadian ice hockey player ( Right Wing ) and coach, from 1955 to 1970 for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League played.

Career

During his youth, he played with, among others, along with Scotty Bowman at the Montreal Junior Canadiens in the QJHA. In the senior level, he played at the beginning of the Shawinigan Cataracts in QHL.

When Toe Blake, the Montreal Canadiens took to the 1955/56 season as a coach, he brought him into the squad. He was the star team of Canadiens bring more physical robustness. In line with Andre Pronovost and Phil Goyette, with whom he had already played together as juniors player who defensively oriented striker developed his offensive qualities. Eleven times in a row, he took part in the NHL All-Star Game. The development of his offensive skills brought him in his later years, a number of awards as a nomination to the First All -Star Team. He managed in the season 1964/65 the leap into the top ten scorers in the NHL, and in 1968 he was the first player who was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. After nine Stanley Cup victories, he ended his active career in 1970.

In June 1971, the Canadiens sold the rights to him to the Los Angeles Kings, but he decided to train in the Rosemount National QJHL and against a return to the NHL.

In 1984, he died in Florida of a heart attack while playing tennis.
