Claude T. Smith

Claude Thomas Smith ( born 1932 in Monroe City, Missouri, † December 13, 1987 in Raytown, Missouri ) was an American composer.

He studied at Central Methodist College, Fayette, Missouri and at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where in 1958 he graduated as a Bachelor of Music. During the Korean War, he was a musician in the 371st Army Band. After completing his military service, he worked as a lecturer for instrumental music in Nebraska and Missouri.

From 1976 to 1978 he was assistant professor at Southwest Missouri State University and Conductor of the University Orchestra. Meanwhile, he worked for a music publishing as a consultant, composer and arranger. This work, he later took over full-time and worked as a freelance composer, guest conductor and director of instrumental courses and workshops primarily in the United States and Canada.

For his compositions, he received many awards and honors.
