Claudio Acquaviva

Claudio Acquaviva, occasionally Claudio Acquaviva ( born 14 September 1543 in Naples Atri; † January 31, 1615 in Rome) was the fifth Superior General of the Society of Jesus.

Life

Claudio Acquaviva Acquaviva came from the house, he was the youngest son of Giovanni Antonio Acquaviva, Duke of Atri. 1568 Aqua Viva joined with 25 years in the Society of Jesus.

Over the years he has held the offices of a provincial in Naples and later in Rome. As Everard Mercurian on August 1, died in 1580, the General Assembly, of the Order of Claudio Acquaviva on February 19, 1581 for the fifth General of the Order. He was at 38 years old the youngest general of the order. He was also the first Superior General did not come from Spain, which caused dissatisfaction among the Spanish members of the Order, which he was able to overcome, however. Aqua Viva practiced his Generalate taut in the matter, but authentic and humble in dealing out.

Under his leadership, the Directory exercitiorum S. Ignatii took its final shape. He issued in 1599, the Ratio Studiorum, in her education in the Society of Jesus was regulated.

At the age of 72 years Claudio Acquaviva died on January 31, 1615 in Rome. His successor was Mutio Vitelleschi.

Nephew of consecrated Generals was the late Rodolfo Acquaviva (1550 - 1583), Jesuit missionary and martyr in India.
