Clausholm Castle

Castle Claus Holm is a great baroque palace complex southeast of Randers in the Danish mainland.

History

In the chronicles Claus Holm was first mentioned at the beginning of the 14th century, whose former owner was able Ovesen, one of the leaders in Jutland Uprising of 1359 against Valdemar Atterday. The castle was built from 1690 to the Prime Minister Conrad von Reventlow. His daughter Anna Sophie Reventlow lived as Dowager Queen in the castle.

Claus Holm is the best preserved castle in Denmark from the Baroque period. The interior is maintained in large parts with stucco ceilings, tapestries and chapel with historic organ in original condition. The scale in baroque style garden with a fountain was restored in 1976.
