Clay County (Georgia)

The Clay County is located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fort Gaines.

Geography

The County in southwest Georgia and on the west by Alabama. It has an area of 562 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Quitman County, Randolph County, Calhoun County and Early County.

History

Clay County was formed on February 16, 1854 from portions of Early County and Randolph County. It was named after Henry Clay, a senator from Kentucky.
