History

The Clay County was formed on 12 May 1871 parts of Chickasaw County, Lowndes County, Monroe County and the Oktibbeha County as Colfax County and later renamed. It was designated the United States by Henry Clay (1777-1852), a longtime lawmakers from both houses of Congress and Secretary of State.
