Clayton is a town in Alabama, USA and the county seat ( county seat ) of the Barbour County since 1832. The total area of the village is 14.1 km ². According to an estimate from 2005, Clayton had 1402 inhabitants. The city is the birthplace of George William Andrews, a politician, who represented the state of Alabama in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In the census of 2000, Clayton had 1475 inhabitants, distributed among 593 households and 393 families.
