Clayton County (Georgia)

The Clayton County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. Administrative office ( County Seat) is Jonesboro. In 2010, the County had 259 424 inhabitants and a population density of 701 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Geography

The County is located in the central northwestern Georgia and has an area of 374 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: DeKalb County, Henry County, Spalding County, Fayette County and Fulton County.

The northwestern part of the county is occupied by the Hartsfield -Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

History

Clayton County was formed on November 30, 1858 125 County Georgia from parts of Fayette County and Henry County. It was named after Augustin S. Clayton, an early judge and later a member of Georgia's House of Representatives and Senator.
