Clayton is a small town in Kent County in the U.S. state of Delaware, United States. It is named after John Middleton Clayton, a U.S. Secretary of State of the 19th century.

Clayton has 2918 inhabitants ( census of 2010). The metropolitan area has a size of 2.6 km ². The municipality is situated approximately 70 km south of the capital of Delaware, Wilmington, and about 20 west of the river Delaware.
