Cleaner Production

Cleaner Production refers to preventive, company-specific environmental protection. Through the analysis of operational material and energy flows trying to track waste, wastewater and emissions at their place of production and as starting points for internal improvements in industrial processes to work out (energy and material flow management, material flow analysis, material flow analysis). Organisational and technical improvements are intended to help make good use of raw materials and energy and to avoid waste, waste water, waste gas largely. This is for example the following measures: documentation of consumption over long periods and analysis of variance ratios education, benchmarking and controlling, careful selection of raw and auxiliary materials, particularly biogenic raw materials and energy, life extension of excipients and process baths, improved planning, control and automation, reuse of waste, new, low-waste processes and technologies.

The concept originated from the preparation and immediately after the Rio Summit as a program of UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme ) and UNIDO ( United Nations Industrial Development Organization) under the leadership of Jacqueline Aloisi de Larderel, former Assistant Executive Director of UNEP. The program aimed to reduce the environmental impact of industry. It has internationally been found more support than any other comparable programs. The program idea was described as " ... to assist Developing nations in leapfrogging from pollution to less pollution, using available technologies ." Starting to produce by the simple idea with less waste Cleaner Production was further developed into a concept to increase the efficiency of production in general. UNIDO operates since 1994 a National Cleaner Production Centre program with centers in Central and South America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

In Austria, a cleaner production initiative by the BMVIT (Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology) was launched in 1992. These initiatives led to the PREPARE and Ökoprofit. In Germany since 1999 exists the PIUS ( Cleaner Production ) initiative. Since 2001, the Federal Environmental Agency in Germany (UBA ) on " cleaner production germany " an internet portal that has the requirements of Agenda 21 in accordance with the international environmental technology transfer to the target and by its consistent bilingual ( German / English) equally in German as to foreign user directs. In particular, is to be improved through continuous set project reports on practice-relevant research projects in the environmental sector, access to technical and organizational solutions in the field of environmental protection as well as to German counterparts. Use the navigation in the technology sectors ( from A to T for Waste Technology Drinking water treatment ) the user will find information on more than 1,500 real-life examples of the prior art. In addition, information deals on the subject are: authorities, consultancy, research, international cooperation, trade associations, foreign trade, promotion and technology providers provided.
