Cleburne County (Alabama)

Cleburne County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Heflin.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Alabama, on the east by Georgia and has an area of 1453 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It borders in Alabama clockwise to the following counties: Randolph County, Clay County, Talladega County, Calhoun County and Cherokee County.

History

Cleburne County was formed on December 6, 1866 from parts of Calhoun County, Randolph County and of the Talladega County. It was named after Patrick Ronayne Cleburne, a general in the Confederate Army. The first county seat was Edwardsville, in 1906 it was Heflin.
