Clemmons is a city in Forsyth County, North Carolina in the United States. It is a suburb of Winston- Salem. According to an official estimate of 2006, the town of 16,730 inhabitants with a population density of 604 inhabitants per km ².
History
The city Clemmons was founded in 1802 by Peter Clemmons. He directed the construction of the first building and opened a business. His former land still exists today. Edwin T. Clemmons ( 1826-1896 ) was the great-grandson of Peter Clemmons and a well-known entrepreneurs. He operated carriage rides from big cities like Winston- Salem to Clemmons. Through this transport links he offered the residents a lot of new economic opportunities.
In the 1870s, Clemmons was connected to the railway network, which meant that Edwin T. Clemmons had to move his carriage operation to Asheville, North Carolina. Shortly before his death he returned to Clemmons and donated a lot of money to erect a church and a school.
Since then, the city has developed well. Today, about 13,000 people live in Clemmons and the city is evolving rapidly. Its population of nationally known NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer heard.
Demography
In the last population census in 2000, the city had 13,827 inhabitants, 5,291 households. 3,947 families living in the city. The population density was 499/km ². Of the 5,291 households, 36.3 % had children under the age of 18. 64.5 % of householders were married couples, 7.7% living alone or single mothers. The average household size was 2.56 persons and the average family size 2.97.
Around a quarter of the population was under 18 years old, 6.1 % from 18 to 24, 30.6 % from 25 to 44 and 26.0 % between 45 and 64 years old. 11.7 % of residents were 65 or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females 90 males.
The average income of households was 60,486 U.S. dollars, and the median income for a family 70 029 U.S. dollars.
