The Cleomaceae are a plant family in the order of Kreuzblütlerartigen ( Brassicales ).

Dissemination

The family is found in warm to tropical climates. Main distribution area is the Neotropics.

Description

There are (often annual ) herbaceous plants or shrubs. Some species have a bad smell. The alternate, stalked leaves are usually composed, often three to seven parts palmate. There are Stipules present.

The plants form racemose inflorescences with bracts. The hermaphroditic, flowers are four-fold radial symmetry to zygomorph. You have four free sepals. The four free petals are more or less nailed strong. There are six stamens per flower present, except for Polanisia as there are up to 20 The gynoecium consists of two upper permanent, carpels, which are lifted by a long Gynophor far from the flower. The style ends in a bilobed scar. There are usually formed zweifächerige capsule fruits or carpels.

System

In the family of Cleomaceae are eight to twelve genera and about 300 species. As before, however, it remains debatable how far the genus Cleome has to be taken:

  • Buhsea Bunge (sometimes incorporated in Cleome ); with only one type; it was found in Asia
  • Carsonia Greene (also to Cleome provided): x = 16; with only one type: Carsonia sparsifolia ( S.Watson ) Greene; it occurs in North America
  • African carbon ( Gynandropsis gynandra )
  • Haptocarpum bahiense Ule; it occurs in eastern Brazil
  • Oxystylis lutea Torr. & Frem. ; unpleasant-smelling Annuals with heaping in knäueligen lateral inflorescences small yellow flowers; it occurs in the southwestern USA ( Death Valley area )
  • Peritoma arborea: gelbblütiger evergreen shrub with blistered bloated hanging capsules
  • Peritoma jonesii: One-year with 5zähligen leaves and golden yellow flowers
  • Peritoma lutea: One-year with 5zähligen leaves and bright yellow flowers
  • Peritoma multicaulis: One-year with small, loose standing, purple to white flowers and leaves with 3zähligen 1 mm wide leaflets
  • Peritoma platycarpa: One-year with yellow flowers, 3zähligen leaves and pendulous, glandular- hairy capsules
  • Peritoma serrulata: One-year with clusters of purple to white flowers and leaves with 3zähligen about 5 mm wide leaflets
  • Polanisia dodecandra
  • Polanisia erosa
  • Polanisia jamesii
  • Polanisia tenuifolia
  • Polanisia uniglandulosa
  • Garden Spider flower ( Tarenaya hassleriana L.): an ornamental plant
  • Pale Spider Flower ( Tarenaya spinosa ) is not used as an ornamental plant, but horticulturally equated with C. hassleriana
  • Wislizenia californica
  • Wislizenia palmeri
  • Wislizenia refracta Engelm. The home ranges from California to Texas and northwestern Mexico.
