Cleveland County (North Carolina)

Cleveland County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Shelby, which was after Colonel Isaac Shelby, an officer in the American Revolutionary War, named.

Geography

The County is located in west-central North Carolina, bordered to the south by South Carolina and has an area of ​​1214 square kilometers, of which 10 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Burke County, Lincoln County, Gaston County and Rutherford County.

History

Cleveland County was formed in 1841 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named after Benjamin Cleveland, a Colonel in the Revolutionary War and hero at the Battle of Kings Mountain.
