Client/Server Runtime Subsystem

Csrss.exe is Client / Server Runtime Subsystem and is part of the Windows NT -based operating systems.

In previous versions of Windows NT operating system this component played a significant importance as a Win32 server they managed among other things, the graphical user interface and the Graphics Device Interface. In Windows NT 4.0, these components have been moved to the kernel to speed up the system. And so is the main task of csrss.exe in modern Windows NT offshoots managing the command line and the starting and stopping of processes and threads. As the only system component that csrss.exe is marked as " critical process ", the unexpected ending to an immediate crash of the system results.
