Cliff Jones (Welsh footballer)

Cliff Jones ( born February 7, 1935 in Swansea ) is A former Welsh football player. His most successful period saw the winger in the English football at Tottenham Hotspur. During this time he also played in the Welsh national team, with whom he participated in the World Cup 1958.

Sports career

As the son of Welsh International Ivor Jones, whose brothers Shoni, Emlyn, Bryn and Bert Jones were also active as a professional football players and some came to international match honors, born in Swansea and grew up, he began his professional career with local club Swansea Town. In supervised by the former Irish international Billy McCandless team he conquered a permanent place at the age of 17 years and was appointed for the first time in the Welsh national team already in his debut year in 1952. Until 1958, he played for the club, which competes in the English professional football in the Football League Second Division.

In 1958 Jones participated in the World Cup finals in Sweden, where he stood on the side of Ivor Allchurch, Colin Webster, Dave Bowen and his cousin, the substitute goalkeeper Ken Jones in the squad.
