Cliff Stearns

Clifford Bundy " Cliff" Stearns ( born April 16, 1941 in Washington DC) is an American politician. Between 1989 and 2013 he represented the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Cliff Stearns attended 1946-1952 Hearst Elementary School and thereafter until 1959, the Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington. Subsequently, he studied until 1963 electrical engineering at the George Washington University in the U.S. capital. Between 1963 and 1967 he was an officer in the U.S. Air Force, where he dealt with the satellite technology. Later he ran a few motels and restaurant in northern Florida. He also occasionally worked as a technician for the television network CBS. For a short time he also worked in several other industries.

Politically, Stearns joined the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1988, he was elected in the sixth constituency of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded the Democrat Buddy MacKay on January 3, 1989. After eleven re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 2013 twelve legislatures. In November 2010 he was confirmed with 71 % of the vote. In the intra-party primaries of 2012 Stearns defeated in the third constituency of his state against Ted Yoho, who became his successor in Congress.

Stearns was a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, the Veterans Committee, and in some of their sub- committees. He is married to Joan Moore, with whom he has two grown children.
