Clifton Webb

Clifton Webb, a native Webb Parmalee Hollenbeck, ( born November 11, 1889 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, † October 13, 1966 in Beverly Hills, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Webb left school at the age of 13 to study art and painting. In school, he had already received training as an actor and dancer. At 19, he worked as a dancer in New York and mid-20s, he played on Broadway in musicals and plays. The success on Broadway carried him to London.

His film career began in the 1940s, although he had already gained some experience in silent films. His most famous film role was that of Waldo Lydecker in Otto Preminger's masterpiece Laura. For this he received the first of three Academy Award nominations. However, the theater remained until his death his real profession.

Webb lived until her death with his mother what Noel Coward, in whose land he was regularly seen, to the enraptured comment: ". It must be hard to be an orphan at the age of 71 years "
