The 6784 verses comprehensive narrative is the second Arthurian novel Chrétien and reported by the Byzantines Alixander that is looking for a wife, and so arrives at the court Arthur's. Here he falls in love with the sister of Gawain, Soredamors he marries later and can be seen from their connection to the son Cliges.

The author has designed this novel by his own admission as an anti- Tristan, but he does not include traditional content of the Celtic Arthurian theme.
