Climbazole is a chemical compound that acts antifungal and fungistatic, ie, inhibits the proliferation of fungi. It is used in anti-dandruff shampoos, because dandruff is associated with certain fungi (eg Malassezia furfur ) in connection that settle on the scalp.

Climbazole is a halogenated organic compound and is considered very effective. It is a white to grayish crystalline powder and smells characteristic; but this odor can quite easily be covered with perfume oils. Climbazole belongs to the class of antimycotic azoles and is sparingly soluble in water. The solubility at ambient temperature in cosmetic solvents and perfume oils is very good. Climbazole is very light-and heat -resistant. It is easy to store and not hygroscopic.

Climbazole can - if it is taken into the body - chlorophenol split, which is to be suspected carcinogens. Halogenated organic compounds are controversial because they accumulate in the environment to some extent. The Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection began in September 2007 by an EU directive, with the use of climbazole was further restricted by law. Cosmetics, cosmetic Climbazolgehalt exceeded a level of 0.5 percent, were allowed to be brought into Germany only until March 22, 2008 in the trade and sold until 23 June 2008 to the end user.

The effects of climbazole on human health and the environment are tested under REACH in 2014 under substance evaluation by the United Kingdom.
