Climbing the Matterhorn

Climbing the Matterhorn (German Climbing the Matterhorn ) is an American documentary short film from 1947, at the Irving Allen led both director and the production held.

Action

The film shows the difficult and rather dangerous ascent of the Matterhorn, which is the amount of the highest peaks in the Alps, 4478 meters.

Production and background

The film recordings were made in 1946 in Switzerland. Climbing the Matterhorn had on May 30, 1947 premiere.

Irving turned in 1946 along with Richard fear the mountaineering drama High Conquest, in which an American climber ( Warren Douglas ) is dominated by his fear of the Matterhorn, since his father was killed in a climb. Although he only refuses to be part of a rescue team then, he remembers by special circumstances differently and increases with on.

After a New York Times report additional material created during the making of the movie High Conquest for a short documentary, which was then published under the title Climbing the Matterhorn in 1947.

Awards

Irving won at the Academy Awards 1948 Oscar in the category "Best Short Film" ( 2 reels ).
