Clint Mathis

Clint Mathis ( born November 25, 1976 in Conyers, Georgia ) is a former American football player.

Career

Mathis grew up in Conyers (Georgia ). In his youth he played for the Rockdale Youth Soccer Association and then for AFC Lightning, a club playing in Fayetteville. Also, for his high school, he was active in the school team.

He then played college football at the University of South Carolina and was drafted sixth overall by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the first round of the MLS College Draft 1998. He received his first call-up for the U.S. national team on 6 November 1998 against Australia.

The midfielder Clint Mathis began his professional career with Los Angeles Galaxy and moved in 2000 to New Jersey MetroStars. He played a convincing FIFA World Cup 2002, where he arrived with his team to the quarter- finals and was eliminated against Germany.
