Clinton County (Kentucky)
Clinton County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Albany, which was named after the city in New York State. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in southern Kentucky, on the border with Tennessee and has an area of 532 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water surface. It borders in Kentucky clockwise to the following counties: Russell County, Wayne County and Cumberland County.
History
Clinton County was formed on February 20, 1836 from parts of Cumberland County and Wayne County. It was named after the Governor of the State of New York, DeWitt Clinton.

According to the census of 2000, there were 9,634 people in Clinton County in 4086 households and 2,811 families. The population density was 19 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 99.09 percent White, 0.10 percent African American, 0.25 percent Native American, 0.04 percent Asian, 0.11 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.08 percent from other races groups; 0.32 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.22 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,086 households out of which 29.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.7 percent were single mothers, 31.2 percent were non-families, 28.4 percent of all households and 12.8 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.85.
Based on the county the population was spread from 22.7 percent population under 18 years, 8.6 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 26.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 15.0 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were 91.5 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 19,563, and the median income for a family was $ 25,919. Males have a median income of $ 21,193, women $ 16,194. The per capita income was $ 13,286. 20.2 percent of families and 25.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 31.8 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 29.9 percent of those 65 years.
